July Goals

July Goals - Jade and Oak

Happy July everyone – the year is halfway over. And I’m closer to our wedding – eek! So let’s set some new July goals and review how I did on my June Goals too.

Blog Goals -

Last month I wanted to finish fixing up my social media sites to match everything. Fail. I also wanted to make a media kit. Another Fail. But I also said I would change up my sponsorship options and I actually did do that! Pass. I got rid of my medium ad sizes and added more smaller ads at a cheaper price. That means I have fewer spots that have guest posts but then more spots where I do social media promotion. This is easier on me and since the spots are cheaper, I know people are getting their money’s worth. Having sponsors can be time consuming so I wanted to make sure the sponsors I had were getting what they paid for.

July Goals -

For July, I just want to keep focusing on content. I didn’t post yesterday because I just didn’t have anything to say. I’m going to let myself do that more, instead of pressuring myself to post when I’m not feeling it. I used to be sure to post 5 days a week but if the content isn’t great, what’s the point? And it’s summer and everything slows down so I know missing days here and there is no big deal. How do you all deal with posting on a “schedule”?

House Goals -

In June I wanted to keep fixing up the yard and house and I got a good bit done (posted some house updates here and yard updates here). Success. I also wanted to fix up the office which I did not do. Fail.

July Goals -

I actually have bought most of the things I need to fix up the office so I should be able to do that this week. The office tends to be a junk zone and it’s a small room. It’s fine to store crap in there but it just needs to be organized so we can actually use it for office-y things too. I’m excited to get it cleaned up.

Wedding Goals -

In June I said I would take my wedding dress to the tailor, which I did! Success. He told me I don’t need to be back until August so that’s good. I also wanted to order my invitations, which I did as well. Success. I have them and now I have some time to organize my addresses and everything to get them ready to go out. In June we also met with our pastor for the first time for pre-marriage stuff. We will just need to meet with him 1-2 more times so I’m glad we didn’t put that off.

July Goals -

Get the rehearsal dinner booked. I called some places last month but everyone is so unhelpful and every time you call, you get a different person who gives you different info. Grr. So hopefully I can get that locked down this month.

I also need to work on figuring out the rest of my decorations. I want to keep things pretty simple but obviously want everything to be pretty too, so I need to stalk Pinterest for more ideas.

Exercise/Health Goals -

In June I wanted to keep up with going to the gym, especially with the wedding coming up. Kinda success. I worked out but not as consistently as I would’ve liked. I started a new job so my schedule was out of whack. But before I started working, I was doing a lot of house and yard work which was good exercise.

July Goals -

I just want to keep working out consistently. If I’m busy I need to remember, I can do a quick youtube workout or whatever in my living room for 15 minutes. My tailor is fitting my wedding dress to within an inch of my life so he told me I can’t gain any weight so I basically just need to maintain where I’m at and keep working on toning. Luckily I feel like it’s easier to stay in shape in the summer since you’re more active and I’m not hibernating indoors constantly, shoving chocolate and potato chips in my face (as much).

This is kinda unrelated to health, but I also want to shop for some cute outfits/bikinis for our honeymoon. I figure summery things and bikinis should be on sale in July so that’ll be a perfect time to buy cute stuff. Plus if I’m buying cute summery clothes, it’ll keep me motivated with my workouts. Perfect, right?

Random Goals -

This has nothing to do with anything, but yesterday I saw Joe Manganiello (from True Blood and Magic Mike) in my gym. He is from Pittsburgh and was in town to promote a documentary he made. We were the only people in the cardio room for the longest time and I kept stealing glances at him in the mirror and I’m certain he kept catching me. Smooth. Or maybe he was checking me out? Right? So my goal is to go to the gym at the same time the rest of the week and hope that he’s there again. #SorryNotSorryJarrod I don’t get starstruck really but he is a good man specimen. That’s all I’m gonna say.

So how did your June goals go and are you setting any July goals too? If you missed it, here are some of my fave posts from June -

Eh, I can’t stick to schedules! The closest I get is having Wednesday for the culture guest posts. I’m all about going with the flow. My goal for July is to limit all my social media-ing/blogging to an hour or two in the morning, max. . .or else I end up glued to the computer all day! Ain’t nobody got time for that during the summer.

I hear you, I have yet to do a media kit. I really need to do this. I do schedule my posts. I try to do all my posts on one or two days and schedule them. But it seems harder to do this in the summer!

I highly recommend postable.com for gathering addresses. I have told every bride or host I have worked with about it and it makes things so easy for you! Yay for less stress :)

I’m all about content on my blog now too. If I have nothing to say, I’m not going to post. I’d much rather have content worth reading!

Whoa, if you’re gonna have a celeb encounter, I’d say that’s a pretty good one! Mmmm.

I did a similar post just last week about reevaluating my yearly goals. I’ve actually surprised myself on how far I’ve come.

I know it’s probably small peanuts to a lot of people but I hit 100+ followers on Bloglovin. I like to celebrate the small achievements too… Anyway, I’m completely motivated that so many people care or have an interest in my beloved hobby blog.

I think it’s great that you set monthly goals. :o)

Ok I read it now. LOL at stalking Joe, I wouldn’t apologize for that! I find myself posting less in the summer, I think that’s fine. I’d rather the content not be last minute, and summer is just busier!

SO jealous that you saw Joe and that he works out at your gym!!

I also try to stick to blogging 5 days a week but it doesn’t always happen. (Like today, I don’t have a new post. Just too busy yesterday). But I think readers are totally fine with that.

I struggle with the posting 5 times a week vs posting good content each time as well. I recently decided to let myself off the hook and only post when I have something to say and not just because I feel like I need to. For the longest time I tried to keep myself on a strict schedule of which type of posts went on each day, but it only caused me to feel like I couldn’t post about things on other days even when they made sense and skipping posts just because I didn’t have a beauty or fashion or whatever post for that day and then feeling guilty about it. It’s hard though.

ah! that pic! i’m obsessed with pugs and want one so bad..adorable. anyway. i can’t believe you saw joe!! that’s insane.

I think that if I saw Joe/ALCIDE at my gym that I would end up sleeping there and obviously he was checking you out, duh. It sounds like you did pretty great with your goals because you had a lot of them! I do the same thing so heck yes to getting SO MUCH DONE! I hope you are settling into your new job and yes to only posting when you have something to say that is important to you. I’ve been trying to use this summer to grow my blog, but I am trying not to push myself because you are absolutely right about what does it matter if your content isn’t worthwhile.

Joe was just voted the hottest bachelor, so he’s single! Haha! Kidding but seriously he is a hottie! My office is such a mess so I am with you on cleaning them out and making them more functional!

Looks to me like you got most of your June goals done, so props to you! I should definitely start writing monthly goals too. That’ll be my goal for July. Lol.

Btw, do we still say “props”??

  13. says

I never meet all of my goals for the month but I never consider it a fail. I’ve learned to acknowledge that I don’t have time to do everything I want to. So as long as I do get it done at some point, I still consider it a win :)

I love that you saw Joe Manganiello in the gym- what a place to spot a celeb! I probably wouldn’t have been able to play it so cool! It sounds like you’ve made a lot of progress on wedding related things which is always good! I’m sure you’ve mentioned this before, but when is your wedding?

I love the idea of sharing your goals on the blog. It keeps you on track and even if you don’t accomplish something one month, you can always transfer it to the other month. I may have to do this next month.

As for blogging goals, I used to try to post every day myself, but now I do it every other day. It has worked fine for me since I changed it like that. I want to remain consistent and every day just wasn’t working.
